I am a long time vegan who has always had a particular passion for small animals. After noticing a lack of awareness and action around the pet trade, I decided to set about helping share knowledge and passion for small animal welfare within the exploitative and incredibly cruel pet industry. With a big-picture goal of dismantling the pet trade, the brand new campaign Rescue Not Retail focuses of stopping the sale of animals in Pets at Home stores, and educating others on the hidden dark side of ‘pet’ breeding and keeping.

The pet trade is often viewed through rose-tinted glasses, and the idea that it’s built on mass cruelty and exploitation will come as a huge shock to many people. In this talk, we will examine the reality of the pet industry, showing how pet animals deserve far more attention in animal advocacy.
